Longtime City Councilor pledges to keep Rio Rancho growing responsibly and moving forward together
Rio Rancho, NM – City Councilor Paul Wymer has announced his campaign for Mayor of Rio Rancho in the upcoming March 3, 2026, municipal election. With Mayor Gregg Hull announcing his gubernatorial run, Wymer says he’s ready to lead the next chapter for the City of Vision.
Wymer, who has served six years on the City Council and six years on the Planning and Zoning Board, said his decision to run comes from a deep commitment to the city he’s called home for more than four decades.
“Rio Rancho is a special place, a community that works hard, looks out for each other, and takes pride in what we’ve built together,” Wymer said. “I want to keep that spirit alive and keep pushing forward on the things that matter most: safe neighborhoods, good jobs, and a strong quality of life for every resident.”
Wymer pointed to the city’s progress in recent years as proof of what steady leadership and teamwork can achieve. “We’ve seen real success with responsible growth, improved roads, and strong public safety,” he said. “But there’s more work to do, and I believe experience, collaboration, and a shared vision can take us even further.”
A Rio Rancho resident since 1982, Wymer raised his family here and has seen the city grow from a small town to one of New Mexico’s fastest-growing communities. His two adult children graduated from Rio Rancho Public Schools and have gone on to successful careers.
“I’m proud of how far our city has come, but I’m even more excited about where we’re headed,” Wymer said. “As Mayor, I’ll work every day to make Rio Rancho an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The March 2026 ballot will include elections for the Mayoral seat and City Council
Districts 2, 3, and 5, along with several bond questions related to roads, public safety, and community projects.
